Quarter Horses

Greenup Quarter horses are bred, trained and prepared by Rick Greenup.

"Like our cattle, we are breeding for versatility in our horses. We need our horses to walk well and cover long distances during the week, and be good at campdrafting, reining and cutting on the week-end. To do this, we are looking for well-framed horses, that are not too thick, but retain the quarter horse cow sense and athletic ability." Rick Greenup

John Templeton on Greenup Lena's Lethal

Greenup Lena's Lethal, John Templeton combination wins 2011 Toowoomba Landmark Challenge, 2010 Monto Challenge and a finalist at the 2012 Paradise Lagoons Challenge, achieving highest ever score for a reining pattern.

Rick and Alice Greenup started their breeding program in 1996 after purchasing two foundation (Rock N' Return / Fighting Fox) mares from the Rosevale quarter horse stud. Lena Pepperina, dam of Lena's Lethal was bought in 1997 for $9250.00 at the Dalby Stockhorse sale.

They have since purchased Roc Slide , (Docs Spinifex / Cassa OLena) from Ian Francis and Double Gem (QP Double Doc / Dumbudgeree Elegance) a full sister to Double Dignity (sold for $28,000). Most of their horses have been bred using these foundation mares and using the best sires from the campdrafting and cutting circuit.

Stud sires represented in the Greenup Quarter Horse battery include: One Moore Playboy, Docs Spinifex, Playboy Roy, Hazlewood Conman, QP Almora Double Doc, Roy 'N Roanie, Lethal Lena, McNamara Acrobat, Cattle Baron, Tommy Tucker, Docs Jay Tivio, Greenup Double Trouble, Greenup Double Cross.

The combination of the racing blood of Fighting Fox and Flappers Breeze, the athleticism of Rockin' Return, and the cow sense of Docs Spinifex throughout the pedigrees, is producing stylish horses with lovely frame and a huge amount of natural ability.
